About

I am Laura Chaves, a Lecturer at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science at the University of Miami. Previously, I was a postdoctoral research associate at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona and a member of the sample analysis team for the NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission. My research interests include mineralogy, cosmochemistry, returned samples, planetary sciences, small bodies, and electron microscopy.

Besides research, I am interested in encouraging members of underrepresented communities in the U.S. and in Latin America to be involved in planetary science through teaching, outreach, mentoring, and media.

My hobbies include traveling, watching movies, reading, baking, cooking, coloring, going to concerts, and much more.
